“To build a future where hope becomes opportunity, opportunity creates empowerment, and empowered communities drive sustainable development across Africa.”

Professional Profile

Dr. Ernest B. Kombo is a medical doctor, humanitarian leader, community development advocate, and the Founder and President of the Africa Hope Development Foundation (AHDF). He has extensive field experience working closely with vulnerable, underserved, and marginalised communities, particularly in Namibia's Zambezi Region and across the country.

Since establishing the Africa Hope Development Foundation in 2013, Dr. Kombo has provided leadership to a wide range of community-based humanitarian, health, and development initiatives. His work has included health education and community awareness programmes, support for voluntary medical male circumcision initiatives, and assistance in facilitating access to treatment for children born with clubfoot and other correctable conditions.

His humanitarian engagement has also included supporting refugees, vulnerable families, and underserved communities through the distribution of food commodities and sustained food assistance programmes. These interventions have sought not only to respond to immediate needs but also to restore dignity, strengthen community resilience, and support families facing social and economic hardship.

Recognising that sustainable development requires more than short-term assistance, Dr. Kombo has actively promoted entrepreneurship, skills development, sustainable livelihoods, and economic empowerment through various community-based programmes. These initiatives are designed to equip individuals and families with practical skills, strengthen self-reliance, and create pathways towards meaningful and sustainable economic participation.

Dr. Kombo's community service further extends to community counselling and psychosocial support, including engagement with individuals and families affected by marital and family challenges, domestic violence, and substance abuse. Through education, counselling, appropriate referral, and community engagement, he advocates for stronger families, safer communities, and the restoration of dignity and hope.

His approach to humanitarian and development work is grounded in direct community engagement and practical field experience. Having worked closely with the communities he serves, Dr. Kombo has developed a strong understanding of the interconnected challenges of poverty, limited access to healthcare and education, unemployment, social vulnerability, and economic exclusion.

Since the Foundation's establishment in 2013, many of its humanitarian and community initiatives have been personally funded and sustained by Dr. Kombo, with the dedicated support of his wife, Lizzelle Kombo. Their shared commitment to humanitarian service has enabled the Foundation to continue reaching vulnerable communities and implementing meaningful programmes despite limited external funding.

Under Dr. Kombo's leadership, the Africa Hope Development Foundation continues to advance initiatives in humanitarian assistance, health and well-being, education, women and youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, skills development, sustainable livelihoods, community resilience, and social inclusion.

Dr. Kombo is committed to building meaningful and accountable partnerships with charitable organisations, humanitarian agencies, healthcare institutions, governments, development partners, civil society organisations, and the private sector.

His vision is to position the Africa Hope Development Foundation as a credible, collaborative, and internationally connected African humanitarian and development organisation capable of transforming lives through practical, sustainable, inclusive, and measurable interventions.

Through his professional, humanitarian, and community development work, Dr. Kombo continues to advocate for a future in which vulnerable individuals and communities are not defined by their circumstances but are empowered with the opportunities, knowledge, skills, resources, and support necessary to realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
